Sequence of aftershocks after Friday’s earthquake unfolding normally, ANA radio told

The sequence of aftershocks following the 5.1-Richter earthquake in Athens was unfolding as expected and showed that the situation was returning to normal, Dynamic Tectonics and Applied Geology Prof. Efthymios Lekkas said on Monday, talking to the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA).

He warned, however, that an aftershock of around 4.3 Richter was still a possibility following Friday’s quake and people should not be taken by surprise, since this would mostly likely be small and might not even be felt by many people. Aftershocks could continue for roughly a week after the main quake “after which there is no cause for concern,” he added, since the same rift could not generate another large earthquake in the near future.
